It started subtly: a tingling along the spine, a slight tremor, a few errant beats of her heart. At first, she didn’t notice the change. A little less fat on her already slim stomach. A bit more muscle when she flexed her arm to brush her brunette locks. Then, one day the brush came away heavy with loose hair. First just a few strands. More followed. Eventually, her scalp was smooth. Her eyes, once the color of chocolate, were now closer to amber. They turned yellow when a light shone on them. A dark hunger grew in her with each day, deepening as her teeth sharpened and her fingers lengthened. She kept to the shadows, slipping by unnoticed, laying in wait. It wouldn’t be long now. The change would consume her.
